It's MARDI GRAS at Sunday Postcard Art!

This week Sunday Postcard Art is celebrating MARDI GRAS. My postcard's background is actually a photograph that my husband took when we were in Venice a few years ago.

The female image is from an ARTCHIX Studio collage sheet. I created the headpiece with butterflies, paper scraps, ribbon, sequins and Stickles.

Check out BAKERY for Small Business Advice

 Erin Loechner (blogger/publisher) and Jaime Derringer (artist/blogger) have started a new venture called BAKERY.  I first heard about Erin through her fantastic art/design blog: Design for Mankind.

According to the site, "BAKERY offers a wide variety of assistance to small businesses and independent shoppes worldwide." Their blog includes useful information and tips.

I especially enjoyed reading the entry: Top Ten Unspoken Rules of Blogging. (I feel a little guilty now because a four-day Migraine prevented me from posting more frequently this week.) See Rule #2 - Update Often.

Zentangle

Recently, I was surfing the Internet looking for more information on doodling and I came across the Zentangle site.

According to the site, "Zentangle is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It is a fascinating new art form that is fun and relaxing. It increases focus and creativity. Zentangle provides artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of personal well being."

Check out the site for more information and examples of this art form. There's even a kit which you can purchase. Here is my take on Zentangle. I decided to include female images. Try creating a Zentangle today - It really is a lot of fun.

Pantone Colors for Spring 2009

Via Apartment Therapy, I came across the Pantone Colors for Spring 2009. These are the Spring colors that we will be seeing in the fashion, home, paint, graphic arts and consumer markets. I try to keep these colors in mind when I'm developing my mixed-media art pieces.

Ten Tips to Draw More Daily

As I mentioned before on my blog, one of my 2009 goals is to draw daily. I had a similar goal in 2008 and I did draw almost every day. However, this year I want to Create More Art.

As I reflect back on 2008, I think one of the obstacles that prevented me from being more prolific was creating the perfect circumstances for drawing. I told myself that I couldn't draw unless I was in my Studio.... or until I had a longer block of  time to create. And so on and so on. The excuses continued.

This year I decided to sweep perfection out the door. Instead, I came up with a list of ten tips to help me draw daily. I hope some of these tips help you too.
