Today, I was looking through some old magazines, and catalogs, and came across this image of a window box - and decided to create a simple collage.
The image reminded me of today's beautiful, sunny and warm day in North Carolina. It is a definite contrast to the hurricane winds and rain of a few days ago.
My prayers do go out to all of the Brattleboro, Vermont residents who experienced flooding. It was sad to see all the destruction, in their town, on the news.
We began the day with sunshine and some light rain. Now, in the late afternoon, the winds are beginning to kick up and more clouds are forming. I'm hoping we will have power tomorrow.
Miss Irene will make her grand entrance, tonight, in our area.

Since I've been doing a lot of painting and needle-felting recently, I missed working with collage. That's why I took some time today to create this collaged piece.
I find it very relaxing to compose simple collaged postcards. What type of art work do you do when you want to create without pressure?
Weather Update: Here in North Carolina, we didn't get any repercussions from today's earthquake. But now it looks like Hurricane Irene could be headed toward the Carolinas. Time to take my two Shih Tzus - and Hide!!! I'm not as brave as my husband. Stay safe!

I can especially relate to her first suggestion: Create an Inspirational Work Environment. Since I recently reorganized and cleaned out my Studio, I have increased both my joy in making art and my output. Allocating specific areas for my tools/supplies makes it so much easier to find things. Why didn't I do this earlier?
But back to Lori's post, check out the rest of her informative tips on improving your art here. However, don't stop there. Her blog achives contain a wealth of valuable information for artists.
This past Sunday, our Tidewater Artists Group (TAG) hosted a Basics of Zentangle class, led by certified instructor Kathy Cawthon. Pictured is my introductory Zentangle Kit - and my partly finished (and first) Zentangle. I forgot to put the pencil and micron pen, that comes with the kit, in this picture.
In the past, I merely dabbled in Zentangles. Now that I know more about this art form, I'm going to put some time aside to seriously practice.

I usually don't do many Halloween paintings. But I had so much fun creating Glenda the Good Witch that I'm thinking of painting a series of witches. Maybe I'll do a pink witch next. What do you think?

For the past two days, I've been cleaning and reorganizing my Studio.
My work table was overcrowded with art supplies. There was not even an inch of open space. In order to get any work done, I had to create on a drawing board on my lap. I'll spare you the before picture.
The big problem was that I did not have any storage space. I spotted a Stanton Cart on the Home Decorators site. (I have no association with the company.)
The cart features six small drawers and two large drawers. Since the site is offering free shipping and a 10% discount, I ordered it in dark cherry. I really do love the cart. Just one more day of cleaning - and I should have a neat and organized Studio.

For the past year, I've had a pad of yupo paper languishing in my studio. I keep meaning to experiment with the paper but other art projects have taken up my time. Does any of this sound familiar to you?
Today, I googled yupo paper and came upon Sandrine Pelissier's Web sites. She provides a great overview on Painting with Watercolors, Acrylics and Mixed Media on Yupo paper.
In addition to Sandrine's informative Yupo Paper site, she maintains Web sites for Watercolor Painting and Mixed Media Painting. Sandrine also hosts a blog.
In each of her venues, you'll find a wealth of painting techniques, demos and inspiration. Now, I just have to get my Yupo paper back on the drawing board.
Sometimes I need miniature items to complete my mixed-media, and assemblage, art projects. So I enjoy checking in with the Artisans in Miniature (AIM) blog.
The AIM group also produces a free, monthly magazine that is filled with features, projects, news and more. The August issue is hot off the press. Check it out here.
