Today is Day Twenty Three of 30 Paintings in 30 Days.
Instead of working with the usual paper substrates, I painted a silk scarf.* To protect my table, I lined it with freezer paper. First, I brushed undiluted alcohol on the scarf. Then I dropped small puddles of alcohol ink all over the scarf. I sprayed the puddles with alcohol to achieve diffused colors.
When the scarf dried, I used a text stamp (loaded with pigment ink for fabrics) to print an all-over design. Last, I ironed the scarf to make the colors permanent. The photo doesn't adequately show the beauty of the silk-painted scarf.
*Note: The scarf has a beige background because I had eco-dyed it beforehand with found plant materials.
