Abbott Handerson Thayer's Angels

 

Thayer Angel Painting

I have always admired this painting of an Angel but I did not know much about the artist. I was surprised to find that Thayer's Angels are his best-known paintings.

Here's some more background information on the artist: "Abbott Handerson Thayer (1849-1921), is recognized today for his ethereal angels, portraits of women and children, landscapes, and delicate flower paintings. A New Englander who expressed the spiritual in much of his work, he was known as a "soul painter." In his own time, his work was praised by critics even as it was popular with the public and sought after by collectors."

I'm currently working on painting mixed-media art portraits and Thayer's angels are an inspiration to me.

 

Portrait of a Lady - John Copley

I came across this painting, entitled Portrait of a Lady, done by John Copley (1737-1815). I don't know the painting's background but it reminded me of Marie Antoinette.

Art Renewal Center - Inspiration

I bookmarked this site Art Renewal Center  (ARC) a while back. I like to revisit it every now and then to view the inspirational works of art. Although I primarily work in Mixed-Media, I get energized by fine art.

One of ARC's goals is "to create the largest on-line Museum on the Internet, with hundreds of thousands of over-sized high quality images of all the known works of the greatest painters and sculptors in human history......" You can read more about their Mission on their site - and view some of your favorite paintings.

I have always liked "The White Girl" (see below) painted by James Abbott McNeil Whistler. (Whew - I never realized what a long name he had.)
