Time for Tea

It's TIME FOR TEA at Sunday Postcard Art (SPA). I originally had a Victorian theme in mind. But I couldn't find the right images in my stash. So I created an Oriental postcard instead.

The Chinese script, and tea pot, in the background came from a catalog I picked up while we were in Taiwan a few years ago. I used a combination of red and yellow oil pastels on the background.

The doors were part of a travel brochure. The female image comes courtesy of a collage sheet from Gaby Braun. You must visit her blog. She generously offers beautiful, freebie collage sheets. Thank you Gaby!

STEAMPUNK

This week Martina, from Stempel-Gewerkel, came up with a fun theme for Sunday Postcard Art: STEAMPUNK. I really had fun with this challenge.

I used silver tape, from the hardware store, for the female's dress and crown. The tape is brighter than what you see on your monitor. My scanner took away some of the shine.

The challenge ends on Sunday so you still have time to create a postcard. Or, you can just sit back and enjoy all the STEAMPUNK art on SPA.

Hunting & Gathering Small Treasures

I think that people that work in Mixed-Media Art are forever hunting for, and gathering, small treasures.

The elements of this collage come from many sources, purchased at different times, and in different places. I bought the tin tile a couple years ago from Jaime's ART-E-OLOGY Shop. She offers the greatest vintage items.

The sweet little girl image came from Paper Whimsy. Gale's images are always too tempting. I purchased the fabric (a fat quarter), and trim, from a local fabric store. The bead came from Ornamentea, a fabulous bead store in Raleigh.

I bring my treasures home and let them simmer for a while in my Studio. Then, the right moment arrives and these little gems seamlessly come together and result in an art piece.

Pottery Barn Knockoff Lamp from The Shabby Chic Cottage

Via Living with Lindsay,  I found Gina's tutorial for an elegant Pottery Barn Knockoff Lamp. Gina is host of The Shabby Chic Cottage blog. You must visit her site. There's so much creativity to savor.

Gina's lamp has really inspired me in a personal way. When we relocated, a few years ago, our Movers damaged some of our favorite household items. But worse, they lost my beautiful Victorian lamp shade. Not the lamp base, just the shade was missing. The fringe on the shade was about 6 inches long and the shade's color was a beautiful pale rose.

I was heartbroken. The lamp was one of the very few items that I received from my Mother after she passed. I contacted the Moving Company many times but they refused to take responsibility. Intuitively, I believe someone has my shade. And I'm disappointed that a person may have kept it instead of trying to find the owner

Now, back to Gina's lamp.....All this time I've kept the lamp base in a closet. But when I saw Gina's lamp, I decided this might just be the perfect tutorial to add to new life to my lamp base. Thank you Gina for the inspiration!

Goddess Theme

Goddess is this week's theme on Sunday Postcard Art (SPA).

As I sorted through my images, I first found the chair. I have always admired the picture of this chair. I knew it had to be part of my postcard.

The postcard's background came from a travel catalog. I created the female using three different body images found in fashion magazines. The chair came from a lifestyle magazine. I think the chair is what a Goddess might chose to sit in. Check out the other Goddess images on SPA.

 

Altered Faux Roses and Peonies Swap Arrived

Today, I received my flowers from the Altered Faux Roses and Peonies Swap which was sponsored by the Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group. And they are just beautiful! My picture doesn't even capture all the glittery details.

It was just the prettiest surprise that I needed to receive in the mail. I have been sick with the flu/virus. That's why I have not been posting for a while.

These roses are fun to make. I think I'll experiment with this art form again in the near future.
