I’m a member of the Book Look Bloggers so I received a complimentary copy of the book The Legend of the Easter Robin. The original tale was written by Dandi Daley Mackall. Fresh illustrations by Richard Cowdrey have been incorporated into this new edition. His vintage-style art work lends a tender touch to the book.
I was surprised to learn that the Christian-centered story is actually based on an old Pennsylvania Dutch legend. During the course of the story both grandmother and granddaughter, Tressa, closely watch the drama of the robins as they build a nest and hatch their babies.
A sub story follows grandmother and Tressa as they color Easter eggs and the little girl learns the legend of the small bird with a very big heart. The book is a gently told story that helps children celebrate the joy of spring and Easter.
