I recently purchased the book, Abstract Explorations in Acrylic Painting written by Jo Toye.
Toye presents many interesting techniques in the book. For example, she suggests working with a razor blade and India ink to create a painting which is what I did in the above art piece. Instead of black India ink, I used turquoise ink. I also added some pink watercolor paint with a brush.
Toye also recommends working small when doing experiments. I'm using 8" x 8" sheets of watercolor paper for my art work.
The author says, "By working small you will have very little investment in time, effort, paint or paper....It is easier to adopt the attitude, What do I have to lose?....When you feel you don't have anything to lose, you often come up with some of your best and most innovative work."
I plan to try out more of Toye's experiments in the coming weeks.
Yes! Jo Toye's Book is THE BEST! I have many, many art books that show techniques, but her book has the MOST STEPS to explain what to do. It is the easiest to follow of any book I have ever read. HIGHLY recommend!
