Via the Swiss Miss blog, I discovered that the New York Public Library allows you to download 180,000 images in high resolution format. The images consist of historic photographs, maps, letters and more. 

I love the vintage, aged look of the above Thomas Jefferson image. I think it would make a great background for a mixed media piece and/or a painting.
